Build a lasting home.

Risinger Build is an Austin builder working alongside the city’s best architects on new homes, remodels and boat docks. Founded by Matt Risinger of The Build Show, we build every house as if the inside of the walls will be on camera.

The expensive part of a house is the part you never see.

Anyone can hang a beautiful light fixture. What separates a house that’s still tight and dry in 2080 from one that’s rotting by 2035 is inside the walls: how water is shed, where the air barrier is, and whether the framing ever gets wet.

That’s where we spend our attention. Two of our leaders are Certified Passive House Builders, and the building science Matt teaches on The Build Show is how we work every day.

Inside the walls

Water, air, vapor, heat.

Austin is a hot, humid climate with violent rain, hail and months of air conditioning. The wall that works here keeps water, air, vapor and heat outside the framing. Building scientists call it the perfect wall, and Matt has spent years showing it on The Build Show.

Taped sheathing as the air barrier, continuous exterior insulation, and siding hung on a ventilated rainscreen so it can dry. Then a blower door to prove it.

A high-performance wall for a hot-humid climate. Water, air, vapor and heat are controlled outside the framing, so the structure stays dry and at a stable temperature for its whole life.

Our process

  1. Discovery

An introductory meeting with our leadership team to establish project goals. Budget alignment is then tested through a feasibility study or high-level estimate before a formal agreement.

  2. Pre-Construction

Our pre-construction team works alongside you and your design professionals with constructability feedback, progress estimates and coordination. Our goal is to join the team as early as possible.

  3. Construction

Schedule management, budget tracking, quality control and coordination with trusted trade partners, with consistent communication along the way. Cost-plus, so you see every invoice and receipt.

  4. Post-Construction

Commissioning and a structured warranty program, then ongoing maintenance and repair support for the life of the home.

Where we build

Within 45 minutes of Austin.

We’re most effective when a job site is close enough for our team to be there every day. Every part of the Austin area builds differently: clay in the central neighborhoods, limestone in West Lake Hills, shoreline rules on Lake Austin, septic and hail at Lake Travis.

The Build Show

Our job sites are the classroom.

Matt started filming on Risinger job sites to show homeowners and other builders what good construction looks like, and why it matters. That became The Build Show, now our partner company and the Build Show Network, with experts from all over the country.

The standards you see on the show are the standards on your house.

Questions we hear often

How much does it cost to build a custom home with Risinger Build?

Costs vary with site, architecture and performance goals. Most of our homes start around $700 per square foot. Because each project is fully custom and site-specific, exact costs are best determined once design is underway.

How long does it take to build a custom home in Austin?

Timelines typically range from 18 to 30 months. Site conditions, size and design complexity all play a role in the schedule.

What fee structure does Risinger Build use?

We work on a cost-plus basis. Clients see every invoice and receipt, which keeps us aligned as advocates for their resources and ensures fair compensation for skilled trades.

Should I hire a builder or an architect first?

Both are essential, and we encourage collaboration from the start. We're most effective when engaged early, whether before architect selection or during schematic design, so that design and budget are refined together.

Does Risinger Build work outside Austin?

We are most effective when job sites are no more than a 45-minute drive from our Austin office. We make occasional allowances to extend that radius for projects that are exceptionally aligned with our values. We also offer consultation calls for projects in and outside Austin.

Is Risinger Build the same company as The Build Show?

The Build Show is our partner company. Matt Risinger, our founding partner, hosts it. The Build Show provides educational content from building experts all over the country; questions about its videos are best sent through the Build Show Network website.
